Late 2014 I was recommended for the role of State Coordinator for the W.A. chapter of the FJ Cruiser Club Australia. At the very same time I was advised that W.A. would host the 2016 FJCC National Summit. This means that in 2016, W.A. will put on an event for FJ owners to come together from all around Australia.
Fast forward to 2015, I wanted to put on a “State Summit” to see how things came together. Some discussions were had on the FJCC website on location, eventually we decided on Murchison Offroad Adventures (MOA) at Coolcalalaya Station, about 120km east of Kalbarri.
Let me just say, there is a LOT of work involved in organising an event like this. Securing the location (camp ground) and getting people booking their spot wasn’t difficult, it was all the things that go with an event like this. Organising supporters (sponsorship) and quiz night (thanks Troy) gave the event that little extra special touch.
MOA was ace, what a mint setting. A huge 300,000 square acre station set just east of Kalbarri. We reserved the popular “Reflections Pool” camp ground and dominated the entire river bank with campers and tents.
MOA has a number of awesome 4WD tracks to drive, with names like Buttclencher, Chuck Norris, Widow Maker and Dingo’s Track, we had to check them out.
The quiz night at the “Dirt, Dust and Diesels” bar and grill was great fun. Troy did a top job of keeping it going and the prizes were great. We had support from ARB, Grand Central Coffee, oztent, Drifta, Bluewater Tackle, Redarc, Bluescrews, and Getaway Outdoors. Prizes included snow peak gear, tackle, air compressors, hi lift jacks, battery isolators, tent pegs, coffee, shirts, hat, beer coolers, and more.
