How huge is the rumour that Apple will be soon shipping a Tablet device, with a 10" screen, and 3G, and this and that?
NO. SORRY.
Lets think about it for a moment. Why would Apple want to manufacture and sell such a device? Where exactly does this device fit in our electronic world? Somewhere between an iPod touch and a Macbook? hrmmm
It's going to have some kind of awesome 'touch' interface, like an iPhone or iPod touch, right? Hang on... so we're going to put our greasy and filthy fingers all over the tablet screen, just to type something? FAIL. I don't know about you, but I'm constantly cleaning my iPhone screen! I guess I'm just a grot.
Lets look at some "possibly good", professional uses for an Apple Tablet:
Kiosk / Point of Sale
Medical / Health Industry
Sales / Inventory
The last time I checked, Apple made products to suit a wide audience, a huge consumer demographic. A tablet will certainly be a step in the wrong direction for Apple.
Answer these for me:
Who is actually going to purchase one, and for what reason? To email on? To buy music from iTunes?
How will the screen be protected against the elements, how will you even hold and operate it without it being a huge OH&S issue? Hold device with one hand and attempt to type with the other? What if I'm on the train with it?
You are dreaming if you think there will be an Apple Tablet, ever.
