Inverted Reality

your video, online, now

It's amazing, not only do we have consumer HD video cameras that can capture absolutely amazing footage, but we can now upload this content to the web to share with our family and friends. Here's the two sites I use: www.vimeo.com - is a brilliant web site that was setup solely to serve HD video to visitors. It's come a long way adding blogs, forums, and more. They are now a 1HD vid - 500MB/week limit. Other uploaded vids display in SD. You can pay a subscription for their 'plus' service which provides more value. 720p here. www.youtube.com - been around for a while now huh? now offering HD! 720p here too! Usually I upload here, then 'share' the link to the video in my facebook so my friends and family can see my latest vids. I've not yet tried to upload a HD vid directly to facebook, perhaps I will one day. For small edits with some tunes on top, I'm just banging em out of iMovie on the mac. More serious stuff in Final Cut Express. I'm no pro so I don't need the tools of other packages (not yet anyway) My rig consists for a Canon HV30 camera, Rode Videomic, Rode Stereo Videomic, Raynox 6600 HD wide-angle lens and a Canon XL lens hood. I also have some other accessories like Manfrotto tripod, hoodman LCD hood, etc. I usually shoot in the highest quality, import in the highest quality (1920x1080) and export to 720p for the usual web viewing.

AppleTV software update in Feb

Steve's Macworld 08 keynote is over, he's announced a pile of stuff, but of most importance to the AppleTV lovers out there, is the release of a software update for AppleTV due in Feb. The interface looks new, the ATV will be able to buy or rent content directly from iTunes store without a computer. Standalone ATV? With this news I expect to see some concerned ATV hackers. Will this new software update work on my hacked ATV, will it remove my hacks? Will I be able to re-hack the ATV once it's upgraded? is this version 1.2? so many questions! I know I'm concerned! On the bright side there will be DVD and HD (720p) with Dolby 5.1 movie playback/rentals. (highly unlikely we will see rentals in Australia, we cant even buy tv shows or movies through iTunes yet!) I'll be adding more information as I get it from macworld punters!
